Sri Lanka’s Suresh Dharmasena powered into the final

Sri Lanka’s Suresh Dharmasena powered into the final while Gamini Dissanayake bowed out after a brave fight, as the two Lankan stars delivered contrasting performances at the ITF UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour Sri Lanka Open at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo yesterday.

Dharmasena advanced in style in the Men’s Open Singles semi-final, defeating South Korea’s Sung Bon Han 6-2, 6-3 in a dominant straight-sets display.

In the other semi-final, Gamini Dissanayake fought valiantly before going down to China’s Xiaomin Feng in a hard-fought three-set encounter. Feng claimed the first set 6-3, but Dissanayake responded with determination to win the second set 7-6 in a tense tie-break.

However, Feng held his composure in the deciding set to secure a 6-4 win, denying Sri Lanka an all-Lankan final. Dissanayake’s resilience and fighting spirit were evident, but a few crucial points slipped away in the final set.

Dharmasena will now face Feng in today’s final, aiming to lift the title on home soil and cap off a strong campaign in front of local supporters.
