CR destroyed Kandy fortress after 2024

CR&FC penetrated the hill country fortress after two years as they beat Kandy Sports Club 25-20 in what turned out to be an absolute mud fest in Nittawela on Sunday (11) in their week-7 round-1 clash with a packed house where fans turned up in numbers for the game tipped as arguably ‘Game of the season.’ CR last beat Kandy in Nittawela in 2024 after more than two decades. This loss also ended Kandy’s unbeaten streak in the league and their first loss after the 2024/25 season. This result ensured that there’s no unbeaten teams in the 2025/26 league tourney.

This is the third successive game Kandy hosted CR in their home fortress in the hills and the hosts have been successful in their last two attempts during their 2nd round league encounter in March 2025 (39-20) and (41-33) at the Clifford Cup final in April 2025.
