Sri Lanka Cricket has unveiled its 18-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan, set to commence on January 7.
The series, part of Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka, will feature matches at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, providing a crucial buildup for both teams ahead of international commitments.
Without surprises, following the T20 World Cup 2026 template, captain Dasun Shanaka will lead the side of the strong squad.
From the look of it, SLC selectors emphasized a focus on spin bowling and versatile all-rounders, considering the home conditions in the squad. All the players present in the squad were drawn directly from their T20 World Cup 2026 squad.
The Dambulla pitch, which is known for its dry, turning surface that favours spinners while offering early pace and bounce for seamers, will have a well-equipped arsenal.
Pathum Nissanka, who is averaging 36.8 with the bat since 2025, will be in charge of the top order as Kamil Mishara and Kusal Mendis will follow. Dasun Shanaka himself will be key as an all-rounder alongside performers like Charith Asalanka.
Wanindu Hasaranga will be key with the ball, while Dushmantha Chameera, who has taken 22 wickets at an average of 18.4 in 2025, will be ready to lead the pace attack. Notable inclusion in the playing XI might be Matheesha Pathirana, who will return after the Asia Cup 2025 and will be eager to deliver ahead of the T20 World Cup.
