Marlon Fernando will lead the over 40s at the International Masters Cricket (IMC) T20 World Cup to be held in Karachi, Pakistan from 22 November till 1 December.
At the helm of the Lankan campaign is the seasoned and strategic hand with the distinction of having led two nations on the International stage.
Fresh from captaining the Lankan Masters side in the ODI World Cup in South Africa last year, Marlon Fernando is set to take the reins of a Lankan squad for the fast-paced T20 format.
The tournament, running until 1 December, will see 12 teams from across the globe compete in 42 matches across five venues, culminating with the iconic National Bank Stadium.
For Skipper Fernando, this is a different challenge altogether. He was successful overall in South Africa, but T20 is a totally different ball game, as the stakes are high, the format is explosive.
But, “we are up for it and I am confident this team has what it takes to bring the Cup home to Sri Lanka,” he said in upbeat mood.
The Sri Lanka Titans find themselves in a competitive Pool ‘B,’ alongside cricketing heavyweights Australia, USA, Zimbabwe, Rest of the World X1 and the Rest of Gulf team.
Pool ‘A’ comprises Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, Hong Kong, Canada and the UAE.
The skipper was also keen to share the credit for the team’s campaign, extending a special vote of thanks to the Lanka Masters Cricket Association (LMCA).
The LMCA, a member of International Masters Cricket (IMC), is the body dedicated to promoting the spirit of the game for over 40s, 50s, and 60s cricketers.
