Activities with the objective of further boosting the image of Sri Lanka as a destination for Recreational
Activities, which has an unblemished record over the past three decades for organizing and conducting
unique Events has decided to revive its Event Programme …
Going down memory lane some of the Events we have authored include the “Sri Lanka T-Cup”- Road
Cycling Race, “Rumble in the Jungle” – Mountain Biking Challenge, “Vittel Amazon” Adventure
Challenge, “WQS Surfing with the Australian Surfing Professionals”,” Sri Lankan Golf Classic” etc… in
addition to the LSR Colombo Marathon
We firmly believe that by providing opportunities for such activities in Sri Lanka, the country could be
positioned as a paradise for Recreational Activities in view of the peaceful atmosphere that is prevalent
in Sri Lanka.
It was with this objective that in 1998 the LSR International Marathon was introduced in Galle, which
has developed progressively over the last 18 Editions had become a major Event in the Sports Calendar
in ASIA. It is the only International Marathon in Sri Lanka registered with the Association of International
Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the governing body for Long Distance Running at World Athletics
(formerly IAAF) and been awarded the Voting rights at the AIMS World Congress being amongst its 158
Voting Members representing 434 Races in the World.
This year’s Event – the 19th Edition of the series, is scheduled to be held on Sunday the 05th of October
2025 in Colombo, the Commercial Capital of Sri Lanka after a lapse of 06 years. The organisers, Lanka
Sportreizen, anticipates that there will be approximately 2,000 Runners with more than at least 200
Foreigners from around the world taking part in different categories of Races which will create an
important milestone in the Sri Lankan Sports History. It is heartening to note that already there are more
than 100 Foreign Athletes who have registered for the Event under different Categories from 29
Countries
Main Objectives of the Event
❖ To boost further the image of Sri Lanka as a safe and secure Tourist Destination where people
live in harmony.
❖ To promote Sri Lanka as an ideal destination for Recreational Activities.
❖ To foster the habit of participation in similar Events among the School Children and the youth
of the country.
❖ To unearth the talent of the Sri Lankans by providing an opportunity to run alongside
International Runners.
❖ To introduce the “Fun Running” culture to the Sri Lankan society and thereby to promote the
concept – “Healthy Society.”
The Event will be starting at 6.00 am in close proximity to the BMICH Colombo 07. The Route is from
Bauddhaloka Mw., proceeding towards the Negombo Beach Park via Borella, Dematagoda, Peliyagoda,
Wattala along the Hamilton Canal, Pamunugama, Thalahena, Pitipana & Doowa.
This Event is supported by the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Tourism, the Western Provincial Council,
Negombo Municipal Council and other relevant Municipal Councils, relevant Pradeshiya Sabhas, Sri
Lanka Athletics, Sri Lanka Police and Print & Electronic Media organizations.
