President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to open several major development projects in Jaffna today, including the commencement of construction on the long-awaited Jaffna International Cricket Stadium.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the third phase of the Myliddy Fishery Harbour Development Project will also be opened this morning under the President’s patronage. The project includes essential facilities such as water, electricity, fuel supply, cold storage, net-mending centres, auction halls and radio communication centres.
These are expected to benefit not only the Northern fishing community but also boats arriving from the Eastern and Southern provinces. Following the event, President Dissanayake will address a public gathering at the site.
The President will further open the Jaffna Regional Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, established within the Jaffna District Secretariat premises. Equipped with modern technology and facilities, the office is expected to ease the growing demand for passports from the Northern Province by providing a more convenient and accessible service.
In addition, the President will open the E-Library programme at the Jaffna Public Library, a new initiative that will allow people worldwide to access and use the library’s collection online.
