The Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) recently informed the Court of Appeal that a decision taken by them, related to the ban on the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) a year ago, was contrary to the provisions of its Constitution. The SLAS conveyed its stance on this to the said Court on 7 July.
The CMSC, was controversially suspended by the Director General (DG) of Sports on 11 July 2024. The suspension cited alleged violations of a 2017 Gazette due to CMSC’s affiliation with the FIA.
Following a legal petition filed on 4 August 2024, the Court of Appeal granted an interim order suspending the ban.
It was informed to the Court that if the DG was to revoke the suspension in light of the committee’s findings, the petition could be withdrawn. The Court directed that until then the interim order remains in effect, and further hearing of the case was deferred to 11 September.
