Trinity huff and puff against Thurstan and win by 48 points to 19

By Brian Thomas and Christopher Jordashe reporting

Trinity displayed too many weaknesses, not only in appaling infringements but haphazard ball handling as they looked off colour today and will need not only a pep talk but some work in the drawing board.

Sadly, the scoreline does not relate to the actual script , but Thurstan has shown the rest of the teams that the Lions are vulnerable against pressure and their defense can be breached.

Trinity rested Shan Altaf and play maker Kumarasinghe, the two deputy captains and could have taken the opposition for granted.I believe they made the same mistake against Zahira in the presidents knock-out tournament.

They kick started beating the clock by leading 36 points to nil in the 35th minute of the first half, but looked flat footed with no game plan coupled with very poor defence and infringements by letting a well improved Thurstan team to score two goals and a try which an excellent performance by the underdogs Thurstan.

Trinity has to improve by a mile before they meet St Joseph’s next week to ensure a spot in the super sixes.

They looked the Trinity outfit we know of , only in the first 25 minutes of the game, after which they got themselves into a shell as the Thurstan forwards came up with a gutsy performance crossing the Trinity white wash twice in the first half.

Trinity dropped some vital passes and missed scoring a few opportunities and had to defend their goal line as Thurstan attacked the Trinitians who had no answer , period.

Thurstan camped in the Trinity territory for almost 15 minutes on the trott in the first half, denied the Lions possession, and also made penetrative moves in breaking their defence.

Thurstan dominated play in the second half, scored through a pick and go move as Trinity made so many forced and unforced errors.

The Lions tried out their bench strength. However, Thurstan was up to it.

Trinity scored twice in the second half, basically through the run of play using their experience, after being starved of possession.

It is fair to state that the Lions were off colour and did not enjoy the outing , whilst Thurstan promoted from ” B” division looked a much improved bunch today.
