400 Asian youth boxers arrive in Colombo

The Asian Under-22 and Youth Boxing Championships will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Sports Complex from the 12th to the 23rd, marking the historic occasion of bringing an Asian Championship to the Sri Lankan boxing ring after 58 years.

Over 400 athletes from 43 registered countries in Asia are scheduled to participate in this championship, which is jointly organized by the Asian Boxing Federation and the Sri Lanka Boxing Fesderation

.This championship will go down in Sri Lankan boxing history as the first time a championship of such caliber has been held in the country since the Third Asian Boxing Championship held in Colombo in 1967.

At that time, one of Sri Lanka’s greatest boxing champions, HK Karunaratne, defeated his Japanese opponent at that championship to win the gold medal in the 48 kg weight class, an event written in golden letters in the history of Sri Lankan boxing
