Gentle giant Allaam breathes his last

One of the gentle giants of this country’s English print media sphere Allaam Ousman breathed his last yesterday morning (1) aged 60, leaving a void and legacy that would take years and decades to fill.

The late Allaam Ousman, an old Royalist mostly wrote on his two favourite sports boxing and rugby for numerous publications both in Sri Lanka and abroad.

However, he was equally adept in covering other sports as well such as motor racing and body building to name a few, and displayed his prowess in features throughout his decades long journalism career.

The deceased sports journalist was also a prominent personality in the country’s boxing arena, having been a former star at his alma mater’s boxing team, apart from being a referee and his wide association with the sport was known to all and sundry.

The late journalist who was ailing for some time hailed from a sporting family, and also contributed to a spate of local newspapers as well as having extensively worked for a number of leading print media outlets in the Gulf.

He also covered many international sporting events for publications both here and overseas, and his untimely demise is bound to rob the Lankan print media field of one of its leading lights.

Allaam as he was fondly referred to by his colleagues in the print media firmament, was also a gentleman to his fingertips and readily socialised with his colleagues true to his fun-loving nature. His Janaza took place at the Mattegoda Muslim Cemetery yesterday (1).
