WIvZIM West Indies Seal Mammoth 107-Run Win. Why It’s Devastating For India

West Indies rode on Shimron Hetmyer’s stunning knock of 85 off 34 and heroics by spinners Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein to thrash Zimbabwe by 107 runs in their T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash in Mumbai on Monday.

Put into bat, West Indies posted the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history, piling up 254/6 in 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer smashed the fastest half-century by a West Indian in T20 World Cups, doing so in only 19 balls. Rovman Powell (59 off 35) and Sherfane Rutherford (31* off 13) also contributed significantly.

With the ball, West Indies bundled Zimbabwe out for 147 in 17.4 overs. Motie scalped four wickets, while Hosein took three, including a double-wicket maiden. West Indies’ huge victory makes their net-run-rate higher than South Africa in Group 1 of the Super 8, and means that India realistically need to beat West Indies to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
