Nalanda OBA Clinch 24th Henry Steel Olcott Memorial Cricket Title

Nalanda College Colombo Old Boys emerged champions of the 24th edition of the Col. Henry Steel Olcott Memorial Old Boys’ Cricket Tournament, defeating Mahinda College Galle Old Boys by seven runs in a closely contested final on Sunday (25). The tournament was hosted by the Ananda College Old Boys’ Association and organised by the Col. Henry Steel Olcott Sports Foundation at Ananda College’s Col. G.W. Rajapakse Stadium.

The first-round group matches featured Mahinda College Galle, Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda, and Rahula College Matara in Group ‘A’, while Group ‘B’ comprised Ananda College Colombo, Dharmaraja College Kandy, Nalanda College Colombo, and Dharmapala College Pannipitiya.

Both Mahinda and Nalanda Old Boys entered the final unbeaten, topping their respective groups. Mahinda Old Boys recorded victories over Maliyadeva, Dharmasoka, and Rahula Old Boys in Group ‘A’. Meanwhile, Nalanda Old Boys dominated Group ‘B’ with wins against Ananda, Dharmaraja, and Dharmapala Old Boys.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Nishantha Ranathunga graced the occasion as chief guest.

  • Best Bowler: Ravinath Jayawickrama (Nalanda College Old Boys)

  • Best Fielder: Sampath Hettiarachchi (Nalanda College Old Boys)
