A collective batting effort, followed by Dulnith Sigera’s four-wicket haul, led Sri Lanka to a commanding 106-run victory over Ireland in the 13th match of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 here at the Namibia Cricket Ground on Monday.
Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka registered a formidable total of 267/5 in their 50 overs, courtesy of half-centuries from Chamika Heenatigala and captain Vimath Dinsara.
Dinsara remained the top-scorer with an anchoring 95 off 102 deliveries with the help of six fours and a six, while Heenatigala made 51 not out from 53 balls, hitting four boundaries.
For his anchoring knock, Dinsara was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Middle-order batter Kavija Gamage remained a notable run-getter with a 69-ball 49, comprising six fours.
For Ireland, Oliver Riley bagged two wickets, while Reuben Wilson and Luke Murray could pick up one apiece.
Set to chase 268, Ireland’s batting unit could yield 161 before getting bowled out in 40.1 overs, succumbing to their second defeat.
Opener Callum Armstrong remained the top-scorer with a cautious 39 off 83 deliveries with the help of three boundaries, followed by Wilson and captain Riley, who made 32 and 31, respectively.
Sigera led Sri Lanka’s bowling charge with four wickets for just 19 runs in his 4.1 overs, followed by Rasith Nimsara with three, while Sethmika Seneviratne, Kugathas Mathulan and Viran Chamuditha chipped in with one scalp apiece.
The 106-run victory lifted Sri Lanka to the summit of Group A standings in the U19 World Cup 2026 with four points in two matches, while Ireland remained third with two defeats in as many games.
