Smriti Mandhana shone with a magnificent world record in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday as India defeated Sri Lanka by 30 runs in the fourth T20I to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
Mandhana and Shafali Verma played fiery knocks, helping the hosts post a mammoth total of 221 for 2 in 20 overs at the Greenfield International Stadium, after being invited to bat first. The duo stitched a record 162-run stand — the highest for any wicket for India in Women’s T20Is.
While Smriti scored 80 off 48 balls, Shafali Verma slammed 79 off 46. Mandhana also surpassed Mithali Raj to become the fastest batter to register 10,000 international runs in terms of innings.
In the chase of 222, Sri Lanka fought well but ended up being restricted to 191 for 6, despite captain Chamari Athapaththu’s solid fifty
