The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) further advanced its preparations for the 6 th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 by participating in the 1st Chefs de Mission Seminar organised by the Olympic Council of Asia and the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organising Committee.
NOC Sri Lanka was represented by Mr. Lal Wickrematunge, General Manager of NOC Sri Lanka, and Mr. Samith Thilina, Chef de Mission of Team Sri Lanka for Sanya 2026. Their participation underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive readiness ahead of the Games, where the country is expected to field a strong contingent of athletes.

The two-day seminar, held from December 1 st to 2 nd at the Sanya Conifer Resort, brought together representatives from 36 Asian National Olympic Committees, while nine others joined virtually. Delegates received detailed briefings on operational areas including accreditation, accommodation, transportation, venue logistics, and the competition programme.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Mr. Vinod Kumar Tiwari, emphasised the importance of close cooperation between National Olympic Committees and the organisers. He called on all delegations to engage actively, raise critical questions, and work collaboratively to ensure athletes enjoy a seamless and well supported competition environment at Sanya 2026.

The Mayor of Sanya and Secretary General of the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organising Committee, Mr. Chen Xi, welcomed the delegates and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to delivering a well organised and memorable Games supported by modern facilities, professional operational planning, and dedicated services.
The 6 th Asian Beach Games will take place from April 22 nd to 30 th , 2026, featuring 14 sports, 15 disciplines,and 63 medal events. A record 3,798 athletes have already registered for participation. NOC Sri Lanka remains focused on ensuring that Team Sri Lanka’s preparation and logistical arrangements are carried out to the highest standards. The insights gained through this seminar will support the
delegation’s readiness and contribute to delivering an optimal environment for Sri Lankan athletes to perform at their best on the Asian stage.
