Sri Lanka fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 180 million at the 2026 Indian Premier League auction in Abu Dhabi on 16 December.
Released by Chennai Super Kings(CSK) ahead of the auction, Pathirana attracted strong interest, triggering a bidding contest involving Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants.
After several rounds, Kolkata Knight Riders secured the pacer at a significantly higher price than the opening bids.
Earlier in the auction, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 20 million.
