Ashad Ali, from Horspath Cricket Club, was the only person to receive four awards at the Oxfordshire Cricket Collective Grassroots Awards Ceremony at St Edward’s School.
The man who managed Horspath Under 11s this year, collected the Unsung Hero Award, Inspired to Play Award, Coach of the Year Award, and Safe Hands Award.
He was picked as the winner for his work at Horspath and Oxford University Club CC where he is also a member.
Mr Ali said: “These awards really reflect the time I’ve been able to give at Horspath CC and Oxford University Club CC, but I honestly feel it wouldn’t have been possible without the support, encouragement, and trust I’ve received from the clubs.”
He also expressed his gratitude for the opportunities created by the Oxfordshire Cricket Board.
He praised the cricket community for their support and dedicated his awards to “all the unsung heroes in our cricketing community.”
Mr Ali, who started playing hardball cricket in the UK about 19 or 20 years ago, said that the sport had been a key part of his life, particularly during a difficult period with his mental health.
He said cricket gave him “purpose, structure, and community.”
He has been an advocate for promoting cricket within state schools, noting the lack of support for talented young players.
He has also been keen on extending the same opportunities available in independent schools to state school pupils, including girls.
Mr Ali said: “There are so many young girls stepping into cricket now, and with the professional opportunities available in the women’s game, it’s our responsibility to make sure they can reach their full potential too.”
On his personal mission to expand the sport, Mr Ali has been actively involved in initiatives to introduce cricket into schools and has been a key figure in the indoor nets initiative.
He said: “Right now, the main barrier is funding.
“I’m optimistic that Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council, and parish councils can step in to support this initiative.
“I also encourage businesses and individuals to get behind it.”
