Sri Lanka’s rising para-athletics star Buddhika Fernando delivered a spirited performance at the World Para Games, securing fifth place in the men’s T47 10om, Heat 2 with a time of 11.81 seconds . Competing against a field of seasoned international sprinters, Fernando showcased his trademark drive and composure on the global stage.
The T47 category is designed for athletes with upper-limb impairments, and the 100m sprint is among the most fiercely contested events in para athletics. Fernando, who earlier advanced through the heats with a strong qualifying run, clocked an impressive time in the final, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
With the next Paralympic cycle on the horizon, Fernando’s result provides both experience and inspiration for the team as they aim for future medals on the international stage.
