Sri Lankan athletes win 3 silver medals at BWF World Senior Badminton Championships

Sri Lanka won 3 silver medals at the Badminton World Federation International Senior Badminton Championships held at the Sports Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand.
Renu Chandrika, a former national champion of Sri Lanka, who claimed the silver medal in the women's singles under 50 category at the tournament, lost to Denmark's Jane Wang Nielsen 19-21, 21-23 in the final after a tight match.
Former Sri Lankan badminton star Niluka Karunaratne, who reached the men's singles final in the 35-year-old age group, put up a strong fight against Thailand's Supanyu Avihingsanon.
Although he lost the first round by 6-21, he managed to put his opponent in a tough spot in the second round and record a 21-9 victory, before losing the final round by 18-21.
Nadeesha Gayathri, who partnered Unang Rahmat of Indonesia in the mixed doubles final in the 40-year-old age group, lost to M. Muhammad and J. Patrick 18-21 and 11-21 after a tight battle.
The country's senior badminton players' breakthrough performance in reaching the finals of three major tournaments at the Badminton World Federation International Senior Tournament was among the best performances ever shown by the country's senior badminton players on the international stage.
