Afghanistan defeated Hong Kong by a massive margin of 94 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2025. Afghanistan’s first innings total of 188/6 proved too daunting for Hong Kong, who managed only 94/9.
Afghanistan bounced back from a difficult start to post a big score, guided by opener Sediqullah Atal’s unbeaten 73 and all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai’s 20-ball half-century. In fact, Omarzai’s fifty became the fastest by an Afghan in T20I history. It is a positive start for Afghanistan to Group B, which also includes Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The top two teams will progress to the Super Four.
