Kandy SC winger Kavindu Perera has been named the skipper of the preliminary 23-member Sri Lanka Sevens squad, to contest the two legs of the Asian Rugby Sevens slated to be staged in China and Sri Lanka shortly.
The Chinese leg is scheduled to be held on 20 and 21 September, while the Lankan leg is due to be worked off on 18 and 19 October at the Racecourse Grounds, Colombo.
Perera, 31, an old boy of Vidyartha College, Kandy, initially turned out for CR and FC before moving across to the Nittawela-based club, where he played a starring role for the league and Clifford Cup-winning team during the 2024-25 inter-club rugby season.
The squad coached by ex-Sri Lanka backrower Shamlie Nawaz, also includes two talented schoolboys in St. Peter’s College captain and full back Vishenka Silva and St. Joseph’s College star loose forward Janith Marasinghe.
The duo featured for their respective teams in the recently concluded inter-school league rugby tournament.
