Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga secured the gold medal on Friday (22) in the Men’s Javelin Throw event at the Asian Throwing Championships 2025 which was held in Mokpo, South Korea. He secured first place in the event by throwing a distance of 82.05 meters.
Japan’s Tatsuhito Naganuma (78.60m) took home the silver medal while Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan (77.43m) placed third in the event.
Earlier this month, Tharanga set a new national record during the first round of the Men’s Javelin Throw event at the World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze in India, with a distance of 86.50m.
Tharanga has already qualified for the World Athletics Championships to be staged in Tokyo, Japan next month.
Meanwhile, Paris Olympian and women’s javelin thrower Dilhani Lekamge also competed in the event in Korea and won silver, while a notable absentee from the Championship was injured Sumedha Ranasinghe who too has booked a place at the Tokyo meet.
