SL U20 Sevens team returns

The Sri Lanka U-20 Men’s and Women’s teams, which competed at the eight-nation Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Tournament which was worked off over the past weekend in Bihar, India, returned to Colombo on Tuesday (12) morning.

The Sri Lanka Men’s squad led by Shaahid Zumri – an ex-player from Isipathana College – emerged runners up of the Cup Segment after being thumped by Hong Kong 33-0 in the final on Sunday (10).

They had however cruised through their group fixtures against eventual champions Hong Kong (24-19), hosts India (24/5), and the UAE (26-24) to qualify for the Cup semis where they overcame China (26-17).

But, come the final they failed to fire and Hong Kong powered to the title without breaking sweat, gaining sweet revenge for their group-stage loss to the same opponents.

Meanwhile, there had not been any official from the Working Task Force to receive the two teams upon their arrival at the BIA, its sources revealed.
