Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has firmly denounced recent rumours circulating on social media suggesting the organisation is facing a financial crisis.
In an official media release, SLC stressed that its financial position is both solid and stable, with ample resources to manage current operations and future projects.
According to the Board, the claims of financial instability are “completely unfounded and misleading.” SLC assured stakeholders and the public that it is in a strong fiscal position, enabling it to effectively pursue its long-term strategic goals.
Among its major upcoming responsibilities, SLC is actively preparing to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 alongside India.
In addition, Sri Lanka is set to host 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled for September this year.
“These efforts require meticulous planning and substantial financial investment, both of which are supported by our sound financial base,” the Board asserted.
To ensure the country is fully prepared to welcome the global cricketing community, SLC has launched significant upgrades across international cricket venues.
These refurbishments aim to align with international standards, enhancing not only the match experience but also Sri Lanka’s standing as a world-class cricketing location.
In line with global sustainability trends, Sri Lanka Cricket is also rolling out a Solar Power Project across its venues. This green initiative is designed to reduce energy costs and environmental impact, while generating long-term returns that further reinforce the organisation’s financial resilience.
Meanwhile, at the grassroots level, SLC continues to invest in its National Pathway Programme, a development framework aimed at nurturing young cricketing talent across the island. This programme is progressing uninterrupted, reinforcing the Board’s commitment to the game’s future, SLC emphasised.
“Sri Lanka Cricket remains committed to transparency, progress, and the development of the game – both locally and internationally,” the release further added.
