St Joseph’s 55% – DS Senanayake 45%
Venue: Longden Place

Unlike the Cup segment, the Plate segment appears straightforward – win the game, and the title is yours.

St Joseph’s, currently leading the table with 18 points, are closely followed by DS Senanayake, who have 17 points to their credit.

St Joseph’s seem to have found their rhythm. They thrashed Sumangala 67–7, beat Zahira 29–15 at the same venue, and now host DS in this crucial fixture at Longden Place – effectively a home ground for both teams.

Sumangala, playing up in Pallekele, edged past Zahira 26–19 and narrowly won a high-scoring encounter in their previous outing, 41–35.

St Joseph’s are expected to rely on their heavier set of forwards to wear down the DS side. However, DS’s unpredictability in defence could prove costly if they fail to handle St Joseph’s relentless forward drives.

The Bowl

St Anthony’s vs Thurstan
Venue: Sugathadasa Stadium
St Anthony’s 51% – Thurstan 49%

A simple equation: if St Anthony’s beat Thurstan, they will win the Bowl.

The Anthonians are out of their comfort zone – their home ground in Nittawela – but possess some electrifying runners capable of turning a game on its head with blistering pace.

Thurstan will certainly put them to the test. The Colombo-based side has several talented individuals and has shown marked improvement since the first round. Credit goes to their coach, Shamly, for transforming them into a competitive unit.

St Anthony’s still have their hopes alive, but they will be tested by Thurstan’s three-quarter line, who have been impressive with their aggressive, hard-running style. It promises to be a thrilling contest between two strong sets of backs.
