The game was rather scrapy from the get-go, with Ananda doing all the attacking in the first half but lacked the continuity of the required phases of play to finish whilst Kingswood the home team displaying yet again their butter fingured grabs , coupled with regular infringements.
Pertinent questions to both Ananda and Kingswood: Why are they not getting your basics right as both teams have good players but this seems to be the root cause of the game slowing down with undue stoppages and the referee becoming like a policeman. At times it’s unfair to blame the man with the whistle, instead blame yourselves lads.
In the 16th minute, after Ananda created a few phases of play, they still could not cross the Kingswood white wash due to unforced errors , from prime territory advantage due bad handling errors.
Ananda 3 Kingswood 00
Penalty, conceded by Kingswood in their own 22, helped Ananda to go 3 nil with full back Chamuditha having an excellent game with his boot.
The Ananda full back was excellent with his line kicking and high ball kicking, which Kingswood not only failed to collect at times but even knocked on in breakdowns.
Kingswood 5 Ananda 3
After losing possession in their own backyard close to Lemons Kingswood, they opened scoring. The ball was fed to the three-quarter line on the blind side and the Kingswood centre executed an excellent grubber, followed by a chip kick that gave the home team the territorial advantage for Kingswood winger to score in the corner flag of the right flank. Half time Ananda 6 Kingswood 5
At the kick off after the try , just 2 minutes from half time, the Kingswood fly half drops the ball in front of his own goal post. With Ananda having the advantage, with the loose head, Kingswood committed another infringement.
The crowd expected a quick tap and a barge by the heavy Ananda forwards, but they opted for a kick at goal and took lemons on 6 points to 5 in their favour.
Kingswood 12 Ananda 6
In the second half, Kingswood looked a different outfit. In the 37th minute, through an Induvidual brilliance of forward Ekanayake, Kingswood touched down by mid left to score their second try with an addition of 2 points with an accurate conversion.
Kingswood 12 Ananda 9
Guess Kingswood is vulnerable to mistakes. A high tackle gave another opportunity for Ananda to cut down the deficit as Chamuditha thumped the kick and the Pendulum swung with Kingswood still in the lead by just 3 points.
Ananda 16 Kingswood 12
Through their hard-working forwards, Ananda from a pick and drive attack set their three-quarter line in motion to score by the corner flag of the left flank and their winger virtually untouched.
It was an out of the box conversion we saw off the boot of Chamuditha.
He thumped this conversion from the corner flag to help his team to a 16-point to 12-point lead over an anxious home team.
Kingswood 17 Ananda 16
The Pendulum swung yet again. The try of the match was exceptional, as Kingswood centre Baudeen broke past the Ananda line defence, brushing 4 defenders to score mid right. This was a brilliant try but sadly, the conversion went astray.
Pendulum once again swung in favour of the home team 17 points to 16.
Kingswood 22 Ananda 16
The Baudeen try came 12 minutes before the long whistle but Kingswood with their tails high , scored through an excellent pick and drive attack just 2 minutes before the long whistle to win by 22 points to 16.
Kingswood scored 4 tries with 1 conversion, Ananda 1try 1 conversion, and 3 Penalties.
The Kandy boys are in the hunt as they are in second place with 12 points in the plate segment. The Josephians are in the lead with 12 points as well.
By the way the game in Nittawala for the bowl segment, Thurstan beat Dharmaraja by 37 points to 22..
