Wesley qualified last week to play in the cup segment after they made defending champions. St. Peters look ordinary in a virtually one-sided game.

Wesley played their final game in the league stage against Ananda College, and a school of thought did the rounds whether they hold the tag of cup championship favourites but it was predicted they will bring in their full bench strength at Havelock Park and take on Ananda similar to a warm up game once the game was surely swinging in their favour.

The opposition they meet in the next round will be a strong Thomian outfit including Isipathana who beat them in the presidents knock-out tournament including Royal, Trinity who will also come in as contenders to a great extent, especially the high riding trinitians.

However Royal and Trinity love the tag as underdogs but Wesley proved that every single game they play in the next round , their focus and concentration level has been eye on the ball which has prevented unnecessary ball handling errors and their attack, defense has also been solid.

Wesley dominated play from the get-go to score by playing their brand of rugby by scoring off the kick-off, giving Ananda College an early message that no quarters asked or given at this level.

Wesley ran down 4 tries converted 2 to lead by 24 points to 6 and took lemons with a bonus point as well.
The feature of Wesley brand of rugby dished out is their consistency in both halves.

In the second half, they showed their class touching down thrice and converting 2 of them by securing a further 19 points to win convincingly by 43 points to 11.

Ananda will carry back memories that they crossed the strong Wesley defence on one occasion, hence credit to the Maradana boys.

Their loss by 43 points 11 is No doubt a learning curve for Ananda as they have been an improved side this year.

Tomorrow, we will do a general script of the teams that have qualified for the plate championship.

Kingswood vs. Dharmaraja,

Zahira vs. Mahanama

St Joseph’s vs. Sumangala
