St Thomas 48 Dharmaraja 05.

It was virtually one-way traffic at Nittawala as the heavy Thomian forwards and their well-fed three-quarter line ran down 8 tries. 6 tries in the first half and 2 after Lemons to Dharmaraja scoring a solid try in the second half.

It was flashy open running rugby for the Thomian fifteen who played rugby out of their skins, text book style and buried the home team in the first half by securing a 34-point to nil lead crossing the white wash 6 times before the breather.

Meanwhile, what was Dharmaraja doing ? They could not complete most of their moves due to knock ons and their defence was lacking or had no answer against the heavy Thomian forwards and letting the Thomian three-quarters run at will ,even from their own danger zone , even intercepting passes that made the home team supporters shell shocked as they ended up in tries.

Dharmaraja fluffed scoring opportunities by indulging in many handling errors , with infringements in breakdowns, rucks, and mauls, surprisingly even losing their own line outs a few times.

Thomians, on the other hand, played clean rugby, very disciplined, except failing to convert 4 tries.

St Thomas’ got on the board with an early try in the 9th minute of the game , with full back Bulathsinghala running almost 45 yards untouched. They scored using their three-quarter line in the 14th minute, a forward pick, and go in the 18th minute, a non tackling defence line of Dharmaraja let the Thomians exploit their white wash in the 30th , 33rd and 35th minute in the brink of Lemons to lead 34 nil , with the only critical point being only 2 out of the 6 tries being converted unlike the previous game.

Dharmaraja, after conceeding 2 more converted tries in the second half, tried catch up Rugby, but it’s like closing the gate after the horse has bolted.

Dharmaraja scored by the left corner flag, but the game was done dusted by then.

St Thomas now assured of a place in the super sixes in the cup segment, a slot they richly deserve being unbeaten.

Thomians play Isipathana next week, in a block buster with full confidence in upsetting the apple cart of the Green Machine

DS beats Science at Havelock Park by 36 points to 29.

At the breather science, college led by 15 points to 12 , by camping in the DS , territory whilst DS , were being tested, in the fringes to a great extent.

Science College took an early lead with a penalty to start proceedings with a 3 nil lead.

DS using their heavier forwards got to into Science territory and came back with a converted try to lead 7 points to 3.

The DONS maintained the pressure on the Mount Lavinia lads by sucking in the Science defence. They used their three-quarter line to score their second try to lead by 12 points to 3.

Science College, through a breakdown move, rushed their forwards to score on the right flank to reduce the deficit by scoring an unconverted try , hence, the pendulum swung to 12 points to 8 still in favour of DS.

It was just before the whistle for Lemons, Science got into a try hungry mood, stamped their class by scoring a peach of a try with the line and the forwards playing cohesive rugby and their effort to take Lemons on 15 points to 12 in favour of science.

The second half started with a flury of forwards rushes with DS dominating by setting camp on the opponents territory with excellent line kicking. They crossed white wash 4 times on the trott , converting 2 of them whilst taking an
comforting lead with 36 points to 15.

DS seemed convinced that the game was done and dusted. Little did they forsee the science style of play, which they exhibited against St Peters last week.

With the evening shadows deepening at Havelock Park,Science put their three-quarter line in motion score 2 converted tries and end the day on 29 points whilst DS managed to maintain their 36 points on the board to win by 36 points to 29.

Sri Sumangala 33 , Thurstan 20 at Bogambara.

Sri Sumangala was in for an early shock as Thurstan not only scored under the post but also executed a drop goal to lead by 10 points to nil midway of the first half. .

Sumangala, who has shown vast improvement in recent times, scored far right and converted their first try to reduce the lead to 10 points to 7 , but a brilliant drop goal conceeded by the home team to Thurstan had the visitors take Lemons on 13 points to 7.

The second half was all Sumangala. The forwards did the hard yards to score 4 tries converting 3 of them to lead by 33 points to 13.

A brilliant try by Thurstan using their forwards in a pick and go forwards rush earned them a goal as the final score line read 33 points to 20 in favour of Sri Sumangala.

Look forward to our exquisite scripts in our round up in our 5 games coming up today.
