Sri Lanka outclass Turkmenistan to win title

Sri Lanka triumphed in the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Asia/Oceania Group III, trouncing Turkmenistan 2-0 in the final, to secure the title and promotion to Group II recently.

In the opening singles, Akesha Silva gave Sri Lanka the ideal start, cruising past Turkmenistan’s Aynur Movlyamova with a straight-sets win, 6-0, 6-2.

Her aggressive baseline play and consistent returns left Movlyamova struggling to find her mojo.

The rhythm continued in the second singles match, where Dinara De Silva outplayed Ilima Guseynova, sealing victory with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 performance.

With both singles matches sewn up, Sri Lanka clinched the tie 2-0, making the doubles rubber redundant.

This decisive win capped off an outstanding campaign for the Sri Lankan team, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.

Their momentous triumph ensures promotion to the Asia/Oceania Group II for the 2026 season.
