Before we go down to week 3 , let us revisit week 1 as Wesley took the top spot , whilst week 2 went to the Trinity Lions . Now this is week 3 in contention are Royal , St Thomas Trinity, and Wesley. Teams are named as per alphabetical order.
Royal beat St Joseph’s in a keenly contest game by 33 points to 14 after leading 19 points to 7 at Lemons.
Reid Avenue boys got past the Josephians to
white wash 5 times , whilst St Joseph’s as underdogs scored a goal each in both halves. Royal in their own backyard used their forwards , however, they keep attacking the left flank when they set their three-quarter line in motion.
Royal had an excellent defense on the day but their rolling maul was well defended by St Joseph and Royal seemed in panic mode when losing territory. The saints missed too many opportunities, but we placed them at number 2 despite their comprehensive win.
St Thomas’ who won by 50 points to 35 , after leading 26 points to 14 at the breather, were sucked in for 5 goals by Mahanama. Thomians with a heavy set of forwards and a nimble footed three-quarter line were lacking in defense at times despite their crossing over the Mahanama line 7 times with 6 conversions thanks to Mayanka Dias as he was exceptional. We place the gritty school by the sea at number 4 for this week.
Trinity was tested and they used their bench strength, resting a few senior players with the long season ahead. They were impressive, upfront scoring at will, getting to 36 points by the 32nd minute beating the clock.
After the turnaround the clock stopped period. Thurstan the clear underdogs dominated proceedings. They camped in trinity territory just before Lemons and an out of the box fascinating break through by the Thurstan 2nd in earned them a well-deserved try under the post and the conversion made perfect and Lemons were taken with the score line on 36 points to 7.
Thurstan dominated the second half , they spoilt the Trinity driving mauls ,Rolling mauls and even out played them in the breakdowns. Rubbing salt to the wounds of the Lions , they crossed the Trinity line twice in the second half. Trinity hit back through an intercepted pass and a forward rush to score twice after Lemons .
However, they found the opposition a handful. 8 tries by Trinity is commendable. They won by 48 points to 19 .Therefore we placed them at number 3 just ahead of St Thomas’ only marginally behind their arch rivals this week based on their performance throughout the game.

Our team of the week is Wesley. They were a cut above the rest and are now could be vying for the top slot in the league as they seem to be an improved balanced side.
They beat a decent St Anthony’s outfit by 24 points to 3 , in wet conditions, away from home at Nittawala, and led by 12 points to 3 at the breather.
Maintaining their composure in the second half as well under appalling underfoot conditions, they earned the bonus point by scoring 4 tries even using their three-quarter line despite the game being a forwards battle due to wet slipery conditions.
Importantly, their defense was solid, ensured that St Anthony’s were kept away from their white wash and got the home team to run side ways with excellent defense.
Wesley team of the week yet again.
