Imperial College to ignite the spirit of university sports

Imperial College of Business Studies is continuing its 40th anniversary celebrations by unveiling BLAZE 2025, a celebration of passion and perseverance that will bring together 25 top universities from across Sri Lanka to create a sporting extravaganza that will span across five days over three weekends, featuring much-loved cricket, rugby, basketball, and football.

BLAZE kicked off on Saturday (21) with the day one of the cricket matches being held at the Air Force Grounds and SLDCC Grounds, while the final matches were held on day two Sunday (22) at the SLDCC Grounds.

The following weekend, on 28 June, the rugby battles will take place at the Racecourse Grounds.

The third weekend will witness the basketball matches at St. Joseph’s College Courts on 5 July, followed by the football matches and the grand finale on 6 July at the Racecourse Grounds.

Expressing her views, ICBS Head of Student Activities and Placements Chanusha Jayawardene stated: “In a world where education and experience go hand in hand, Imperial College of Business Studies proudly stands tall as one of Sri Lanka’s leading private higher education institutions. As we mark four decades of shaping future leaders, building a strong academic legacy, and fostering a vibrant student community, we wanted to celebrate this incredible journey by going bigger than ever before with something fresh, fierce, and unforgettable – BLAZE.”

She added: “BLAZE isn’t just a tournament – it’s a unique experience. It’s a festival of sport, spirit, and celebration. From team chants and food stalls to electrifying crowds and surprise giveaways, BLAZE has it all. And with 25 universities in the mix, the competition will undoubtedly be fierce, the energy is unmatched, and the memories priceless.”
