Trinity Survive Early Scare Against Spirited Sri Sumangala

Trinity College were put to the test early on by a fiery Sri Sumangala outfit in their Group 3 clash. The underdogs opened scoring in the 8th minute through a classic three-quarter move that caught the Lions’ defence flat-footed. Trinity looked rattled as Sri Sumangala struck again soon after, capitalising on a string of infringements and converting pressure into points. For a brief period, the game tilted in Sumangala’s favour, and their forwards did the hard yards, pushing a formidable Trinity pack backwards.

However, their early dominance faded as complacency set in. Trinity, regaining their composure, began to dictate play and take control of proceedings. While they committed several infringements in the first half, their class shone through in the second. They ran in eight tries, though only two were converted by Shan Altaf, who struggled with the boot—possibly unsettled by opposition players charging during his kicks. At halftime, Trinity led narrowly, 20–15, but finished strongly to close out a convincing 49–15 victory, showing why they remain one of the favourites in the group.

Royal Flexes Depth in Thumping WinRugby - The Royal College

Royal College made light work of their fixture, turning it into a training session as they gave their entire bench valuable game time. Facing their neighbours, Royal cruised to a massive 74–15 win, having already built a 43–12 lead by halftime. The Reid Avenue boys showed composure, flair, and ruthless efficiency, proving that even their second-string side could dominate at this level.

Zahira’s Second Half Brilliance Dismantles Dharmaraja

Zahira College, Maradana had a nervous first half against Dharmaraja, managing only a slim 5-point lead going into the break. The Kandy side looked solid early on, but Zahira emerged from the dressing room transformed. Their second-half performance was nothing short of electric, running circles around the Rajans and piling on the points to secure a commanding 56–19 victory. It’s yet another sign of Zahira’s upward trajectory, fuelled by consistent backing from their old boys who have played a pivotal role in the team’s development.

DS Upset the Anthonians at Nittawela

At the scenic Nittawela grounds, the home crowd had little to cheer about as St. Anthony’s College suffered a narrow defeat to a well-drilled DS Senanayake College. The Dons led 12–7 at halftime and managed to hold off a late surge by the Anthonians to register a deserved 26–19 win. DS continue to impress this season, showing grit and tactical discipline as they climb the schools rugby ladder.

Today’s Clashes to Watch

The spotlight today will be on the clash at Mount Lavinia where St. Thomas’ will be tested by a fired-up Kingswood side. Over at Bambalapitiya, St. Peter’s are expected to have little trouble against newcomers Ananda, while Wesley should prove too strong for Science College. A potential upset brews as St. Joseph’s face off against Vidyartha—on their day, the underdogs can rewrite the script.

As always, schools rugby has a way of throwing up surprises when least expected. Watch closely—anything can happen when pride, passion, and school colours are on the line.
