
Sri Lanka earned two bronze medals at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, with standout performances in both relay and individual events.
The 4x400m Mixed Relay team, Sadew Vimansa Rajakaruna, Lakshima Mendis, Kalinga Kumarage, and Harshani Fernando, clinched bronze with a time of 3:21.95. Although initially disqualified for a lane infringement, Sri Lanka’s medal was reinstated following a successful appeal.
Kalinga Kumarage also secured a bronze in the Men’s 400m event, clocking a season-best 45.55 seconds. Qatar’s Ammar Ismail Ibrahim won gold, and Japan’s Kentaro Sato took silver.
Nadeesha Ramanayake placed seventh in the Women’s 400m final with a time of 54.70 seconds. The championships continue until 31 May.
