Rugby glances at team Royal this season. Reid Avenue boys as underdogs are equivalent to a wounded tiger, and Isipathana will endorse our thoughts having the experience in the second semi-finals of the presidents knock out.

Royal plays a similar brand of Rugby to that of their Arch Bradby rivals Trinity and both team are bound to put up a great show at the prestigious Bradby.

Forwards have been doing the hard yards whilst the three quarters have been flat footed and their main line of attack so far has mainly been strong towards the left flank in teaming up with their threes.

The opposition teams know that Royal is quick to get to the breakdowns. However, they were guilty of isolating players in the formation of rucks that have cost them plenty of infringements.

Forwards are excellent in pick and go, but show and go tactics seem rare due to lack of confidence.

Royal must address their line out formation Their recent downfall is related to a technical folly, which will draw the concerns of their experienced proven coach Dushantha Lewke and Radhika Hettiarachi will have much work shaping up his three quarters.

The Royal Rolling maul has not worked out well so far this season, but we all know coach Lewke is a hard-working tactical coach. Royal will get that part of the game plan .

Yuwan Pathirana, the full back is left footed, and he gains plenty of territorial advantage with his booming kicks whilst fly half Farook is a right footed kicker. This combination is a massive advantage for Royal.

The Reid Avenue boys’ defence was vulnerable in the knockouts. They were exposed against Kingswood, DS , and notably against Isipathana & conceded 3 tries in the first 15 minutes.

No doubt they will come well this season. They are blessed with a physically strong set of forwards. Pertinent point is how they work on doing the hard yards ,using their forwards , and getting the three quarters in motion because the line looks limp without many penetrating runners, and opponents will try to exploit.

Royal is in group 3 A with Trinity as their main threat , St Joseph’s, Vidyartha, Sri Sumangala, and Thurstan.
