Kalinga Kumara and his mixed relay team (4 x 400 m) will be the only representation of Sri Lanka at the seventh World Relay Championships next week. Sri Lanka Athletics have taken this decision due to the lack of top level athletes who are currently training in abroad.
Unlike the previous years, Sri Lanka Athletic officials are considering the possibilities of making a mark in the world stage. In addition to that, their vision is to give the youngsters an opportunity to gain experiences before some important events ahead.
The seventh World Relay Championships will be held in Guangzhou, China, from May 10-11.
There will be four relay teams from Sri Lanka in the Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Korea later this month. According to the informed sources, there will be three 4 × 400 m teams along with 4 × 100 m (men’s) relay team.
