Colombo, Dominating India downed South Africa in the second match of the women’s triangular at the Premadasa Stadium today.

On a placid pitch Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat to see her side pile up 276 off 50 overs. The entire batting order clicked in a solid performance guided by Pratika Rawal’s second successive 50.

The elegant right hander was involved in a 50 run first wicket partnership for the second time running with Smrti Mandhana who compiled a business like 36.

Rawal was a picture of class in making 78 with the rest of the order Deol, Skipper Kaur, Rodrigues and Ghosh adding brisk runs.

The South African bowling looked adequate – all but threatening and seemed to less able to adopt to the conditions.

South Africa’s reply had Indian bowlers worried. Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits made short work of Indian pacers almost going 6 per over as they put on 140 for the first wicket.

Brits made a superlative 100 and when she retired due to cramps at 170 for 2 in the 33rd over they appeared odds on favorites to chase down the target. it was Brits’ her third ODI century.

Cheap wickets of Goodall and Meso saw to Indian spinners taking a tight grip of the game.

Brits returned to the crease after the fall of the seventh wicket. By then the star of the show was Sneh Rana. Her 3 wickets in the over to finish with 5 for 43 sealed the lid on a possible successful chase.

India was home by 15 runs.
