Chathura to captain SL U-19 at World Cup

The Junior National Selectors have decided to hand over the captaincy of the Sri Lanka Under-19 team to St. Peter’s College all rounder, Chathura Peiris, for the forthcoming ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup which will be held in New Zealand.

The Junior National Selectors, who named the squad for the Youth World Cup on Tuesday, have selected Peiris to captain the team, sources close to SLC revealed. The team selected for the World Cup is yet to receive sports ministry ratification.

The Sri Lanka Under-19 team, who won the recently held five match Youth ODI series in Australia 3-2 and the Under-19 Tri-Nation tournament which included teams from Pakistan and Bangladesh in Colombo on Tuesday, was captained by the Peterite all rounder.

Peiris, who was also the bowling spearhead of the Sri Lanka team, is the most experienced campaigner, having represented Sri Lanka Under-19 since 2007.
